My First Himalayan Kedarkantha Trek

My first Himalayan trek to Kedarkantha with Himalaya Shelter was a life-changing experience. From snow-covered forests to breathtaking summit views, here’s my day-by-day journey into the heart of the Himalayas.

Day 1: Arrival at Sankri (6,400 ft)

The adventure began as I reached Sankri village, the base camp for the Kedarkantha trek. The long drive through winding mountain roads, pine forests, and river valleys set the mood for the trek. On reaching Sankri, I was welcomed by the warm hospitality of Himalaya Shelter, cozy rooms, and a hot meal. The excitement of stepping into the Himalayas for the first time kept me awake, even in the quiet night of this little village.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab (9,100 ft)

The trek officially started! We walked through pine and oak forests, where sunlight streamed beautifully through the trees. The trail gradually became steeper, and soon I saw patches of snow. Reaching Juda Ka Talab, a frozen alpine lake surrounded by pine trees, was magical. The campsite was breathtaking, and as the night fell, I saw one of the clearest starlit skies of my life.

Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp (11,200 ft)

The trek to the base camp was short but full of surprises. The snow cover grew thicker, and the scenery became whiter and more mesmerizing. With each step, the mountain views expanded. The base camp gave us our first close glimpse of the Kedarkantha peak. The evening was spent around a bonfire, sharing laughter and stories, while the cold winds reminded us of the challenge ahead.

Day 4: Summit Day – Kedarkantha Peak (12,500 ft) and back to Sankri

This was the most awaited day. We started the summit push early before dawn, with headlamps lighting the snow trail. The climb was steep and challenging, but the excitement of reaching the top kept me going. As the sun rose, the Himalayas lit up in shades of gold. Standing on the Kedarkantha summit felt surreal, with panoramic views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and Yamunotri ranges.

After soaking in the moment, we descended back to the base and continued down to Sankri. The long day ended with aching legs but an overflowing heart.

Day 5: Departure from Sankri

It was time to say goodbye to the mountains. The memories of snowy trails, frozen lakes, cozy camps, and the summit sunrise were etched in my heart forever. My first Himalayan trek was not just about reaching a peak—it was about finding myself in the lap of nature.
